A variety concert of music for string orchestra and harpsichord, we welcome our special guest, local guitar celebrity Patrick Feely, as we celebrate the music of Vivaldi, Bach, and more.
Antonio Vivaldi inspired many musicians with his innovative sound. Brightening the formal and rhythmic structure of the concerto, Vivaldi looked for harmonic contrasts and original melodies and themes. Many Vivaldi compositions are flamboyantly, almost playfully, exuberant.
Johann Sebastian Bach was deeply influenced by Vivaldi’s concertos and arias. Bach had a musical style that fit in the conventions of his day, the final stage of the baroque style. Bach had a special talent for writing tightly woven music of powerful sonority.
Guitarist Patrick Feely has performed across Canada, making solo appearances at the Sauble Beach Guitar Festival, the Visiting Artists Series at McMaster University, and the Friends of Guitar Festival in Brantford. As a chamber musician, Patrick has performed concerti with the McMaster University Orchestra (Concerto del Sur, Ponce), and with his duo partner Dr. Brad Mahon, as the “East West Guitar Duo”.
Mr. Feely is a faculty member with the School of the Arts at McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario, a member of the College of Examiners with the Royal Conservatory, and was an external reviewer for the 2011 edition of the R. C. M. Guitar Series, 4th edition, “Bridges”, published by Frederick Harris.
Patrick is the Artistic Director of The Guitar Society of Brantford, and the Chairman of the Education and Outreach Committee’s at both the Guitar Society of Toronto and the Sauble Beach Guitar festival.
